The Liberty Rifles regularly participate in both public and private events, each with its own purpose and goals. Public events are geared more towards demonstrating the life of the common soldier for visitors and often take place on original battlefields or historic sites. In past years, we’ve planned public historical programs at sites throughout the Eastern Theatre, from Manassas to Petersburg. The private events in which we host or participate focus on a more immersive environment that provides participants with a fully encompassing scene from 1861-1865. Recently we’ve hosted several of these style events at Point Lookout, MD and a recreated winter quarters camp in Virginia. Each year, the LR also hosts two narrated historic walks at Gettysburg National Military Park, typically following the footsteps of a Confederate regiment during the anniversary weekend in July, and then a Federal regiment on Remembrance Day in November. These programs are completely researched, coordinated, and led by group members, and are always open to spectators and our friends within the reenacting community. The Liberty Rifles Facebook Page

Davy Crockett Longhunters – Lawrenceburg, TN
The Davy Crockett Longhunters is a private black powder muzzle loading shooting club. Don’t shoot? Read on, there is room for you too! We are also living historians who research the culture and perpetuate the skills and crafts of the American frontier time period of 1735-1840. We are dedicated to the preservation and advancement of the lifestyle, ideals, patriotism, and freedoms of the American pioneer. We promote the safe use of black powder weapons as well as other primitive weapons such as tomahawks and bows. We work to teach about the past and how our ancestors lived. We have monthly shoots in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. where running scores are kept throughout the year and the “winners” honored at our yearly banquet. Non-shooting club members attend as well and watch their fellows, join the monthly meetings, practice their crafts if they wish, and just enjoy the camaraderie of the group. This year we have decided to add smoothbore muzzle loader shooting to our regular rifled competitions. We hope to add primitive archery as well if there is enough club interest.
Our main event open to the public is called “David Crockett Days” and is held in conjunction with David Crockett State Park every year on the second weekend in August. Here our club members and visiting shooters compete in a novelty shoot, tomahawk throwing, and fire starting with flint and steel. We also have games for the kids and craft demonstrators. We camp in primitive tents and dress in clothing of the era and talk with the public about the time period. Davy Crockett Longhunters Facebook Page

The Ohio Flintlock & Buckskin Rifle Association
The Ohio Flintlock & Buckskin Rifle Association is one of the oldest continuous living history organizations in the United States (est 1958). Our purpose is to reenact the lifestyles and practices of our ancestors who lived and traded in the Ohio country from the 1730s to 1840; with much focus on Revolutionary times and the War of 1812. We have competitions (as they would back then) of rifle and smoothbore, hawks and knives throwing, plus bartering and trading goods without the frills of a more retail setting. We wish to do it like they would: as traders and trappers would meet biannually to share in goods and stories of the year. Fellowship and a passion for living history is what drives this group to meet in the Spring and the Fall. If you share in this passion, or have any questions, I’m sure group members will be glad to help.
Founded in 1999, the Liberty Rifles (LR) is a group of living historians who strive to accurately portray the common fighting men and home front civilians of the American Civil War, while excelling in terms of authenticity and organization. We constantly seek opportunities to educate ourselves and others about the sacrifices and experiences of our ancestors. The LR was founded to represent soldiers and civilians on both sides of the war with equal accuracy and honor.
